Death's defence

A certain preconception, I feel I must address,
Humanity has evolved, so could your image of me progress?
Dark robe, no soul, just bones, you've painted quite a picture,
But take a step back and think, do I deserve so much stricture?
My purpose is to relieve, not take as you declare,
I cause you pain, but your injustice causes equal despair.
Prejudice is the child of ignorance, a wise man once said,
I only wish man kind could adopt this theory instead.
I have a habit of coming early, unfortunately I admit,
But when one door closes, another opens, there's not a lot to it.
So next time you curse my name, or give me connotations of ancient evil,
Remember your own misjudgement makes you identically medieval.
